Describe your teaching philosophy.
I have always been student-focused in my teaching strategies. I have a good ability to relate the subject matter to real-world experiences. I am considered to be tough but fair by my students, and I am proud of that.
Why did you decide to teach at a community college?
My career at SCC has exposed me to all types of students, especially the English as a Second Language students. I am always amazed at how motivated most of the SCC students are and can easily relate to them. The diversity of students has been my biggest surprise and source of enjoyment for 25 years.
What can prospective students expect when they enroll in your program?
We offer a good Business Administration program here at SCC that serves two groups of students very well. Those students who want to improve their career potential and those who wish to transfer to a four-year school receive a good value for their efforts.
What has been your proudest moment as an instructor?
The memories that I am most proud of are watching the successes of students who faced tremendous challenges to become successful students. There is nothing more satisfying than to watch someone who had struggled early on to eventually graduate with honors. Their determination to succeed is very humbling.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
I love to travel and camp. My in-laws live in Germany, so I have had many wonderful adventures all around Europe. I have a small camper that I camp with throughout the mountains. I am just amazed at all of the wonderful things there are to see in this world!
What would students be surprised to know about you?
I managed large disco night clubs when I first left college. I worked for a chain that owned around 15 clubs all around the country. It was quite an experience to be a part of all of what took place during that era.
