    TRiO Student Support Services is a federal funded program that helps students overcome class, social, and cultural barriers to higher education. The goal of the program is to increase retention, graduation, and transfer rates from two-year to four-year institutions for eligible students. To be eligible you must have a demonstrated academic need and be one or more of the following: 1. first generation, 2. low income, or 3. have a documented disability

    Academic need as demonstrated by one of the following:

    • College entrance scores (COMPASS, ACT, GED).
    • High school cumulative GPA of 2.5 or lower in any area.
    • No college attendance in the last five years.
    • Limited English proficiency.
    • Others as determined by TRiO Success Coach.

    And at least one of the following:

    • Be a first-generation student (neither parent is a four-year college graduate).
    • Be low income as established by Federal guidelines.
    • Be an individual with a documented disability.

    Additionally, TRiO/SSS Program students must be:

    • Accepted and enrolled in a program of study that leads to an associate degree or diploma.
    • Able to complete a program of study within four years.
    • A US citizen or eligible non-citizen.

    As a member, these are the benefits of belonging to TRiO.

    • You and your TRiO Success Coach will develop an Individual Success Plan.
    • Access to intensive academic advising, personal counseling, and mentoring.
    • Use of laptop computers and textbook lending programs.
    • Assistance with transferring to four-year colleges.
    • Benefit from personal assistance in applying for and managing financial aid.
    • TRiO/SSS Program grant aid or scholarship funds (when available) for those that qualify.
    • Opportunity to participate in career exploration and job shadowing.
    • Opportunity to take part in special off-campus cultural activities, leadership activities, and campus visits with other TRiO/SSS students.

    • Recognizing and developing your strengths.
    • Money management.
    • Developing a résumé.
