Shawna Herwick

Associate Vice President for Accreditation and Strategic Initiatives

Shawna Herwick serves as Associate Vice President for Accreditation and Strategic Initiatives at Southeast Community College, guiding long-range planning, institutional effectiveness, and regional accreditation. In this role, she also serves as SCC’s Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission, collaborating across campuses to turn strategic priorities into lasting community impact.

A central architect of the college’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, Empowering Excellence, Herwick specializes in uniting teams around data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement. Beyond SCC, she actively contributes to the broader higher education community as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and frequently leads workshops on strategic planning and institutional development.

Herwick’s passion for accessible education is personal. As a first-generation college graduate, she began her higher education journey at SCC as an intern in the TRIO Student Support Services program. After gaining valuable experience in college faculty roles, she returned to SCC in 2016, dedicated to advancing the College’s open access mission and empowering learners across southeast Nebraska.

She holds a Master of Social Work with an emphasis in administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Herwick lives on an acreage outside Lincoln with her husband Caleb and their two dogs.
