Leadership & Governance
Under the leadership of SCC President Dr. Paul Illich, the College has implemented
a number of transformative initiatives to lead students on their Path to Possible.
They include:
- Renovated and newly constructed spaces and facilities. At each of the Beatrice, Lincoln
and Milford campuses, the College has modernized existing facilities and built new
ones to meet the needs of students and employers.
- At Beatrice, the Academic Excellence Center is the crown jewel of campus and serves
as the primary classroom building at that location. The Truman Center has undergone
renovations to accommodate expansion of athletics. Agriculture Hall was renovated
to provide new spaces for Ag faculty, along with classrooms. A new dining facility
was built to accommodate expanded on-campus housing with the opening of Homestead
Hall.
- At Lincoln, the state-of-the-art Health Sciences building is home to all of SCC's Health Sciences programs. It is one of the premiere health training facilities in the region. The Sandhills Global Technology Center is set to open in August 2024. It will be the new home to Biotechnology, Computer Information Technology, Design & Drafting Technology, and Electronic Systems Technology programs, as well as the Office of Work-Based Learning. The Student and Academic Support Center opened in 2023. It includes renovated and new space for various support services, as well as an expanded Course Ground Coffee shop. Woodhaven Hall, the first residence hall in the history of the Lincoln Campus, opens in January 2024. The 250-bed facility includes a variety of amenities.
- At Milford, the Crete Carrier Diesel Technology & Welding Center trains technicians in both diesel programs and offers related welding classes. Two new residence halls, Prairie Hall and Meadow Hall, expanded on-campus housing by 300 students. The Professional Truck Driver Training program was relocated to Milford from Lincoln, and a new concourse in which to train students was constructed.

- Converting the College from a quarter academic calendar to a semester academic calendar. The switch aligns SCC with the majority of the two- and four-year higher education institutions throughout the U.S.
- A new advising model which provides every student two advisors, a College Advisor and a Program Advisor. The change to this model puts students first and ensures that they receive intensive advising throughout their time at SCC.
- The expansion of athletics from 10 sports to nearly 20. New sports are rodeo (coed), shooting sports (coed), track & field (M/W), women's golf, esports (coed), and wrestling (M/W). The expansion includes offering sports on campuses other than Beatrice. Esports is offered on all three campuses, and men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's track and field are offered on the Lincoln Campus.
