Meet the Graduate: Ellie Haas
When choosing a college, Ellie Haas was looking for a place where she could make connections and have access to the resources she needed to succeed. The Southeast Community College campus in Beatrice fit the bill. She was able to join the Bobcat softball team as a pitcher/utility player and the small town vibe made her feel at home.
“My favorite part of SCC is the community,” Haas said. “I am from a big town (Omaha) where everything is all spread out so being in a small town where everybody knows everybody allowed me to make friends quickly. I also love to be on the softball field with my teammates playing the game I love with great people.”
She enrolled in the Health Science program at SCC because of her desire to help people and work in the health care field. Haas will earn her Associate of Science in Health Sciences on Tuesday, May 14, with plans to go into the paramedicine field. She will continue her athletic and academic career this fall at Carolina University where she will major in Public Health.
“I have had many teachers, advisors and coaches at SCC who have pushed me to be the best I can be to prepare me for what is to come next,” she explained. “I also made lifelong friends from all parts of the world. I would tell anyone starting college to not be afraid to put themselves out there. Join clubs and participate in activities because that is what makes or breaks your college experience.”
As Haas prepares for the next stop on her path to possible, she has a few people she would like to thank for their support.
“My Mom has always been my number one fan and has gotten me through some tough times. My aunt, uncle and Grandma have always been there encouraging me,” Haas said. “I would also like to thank my coaches at SCC, Gary Lytle and Blair Eklund, who have pushed me to be the best player I can be. They have helped me improve so much in the last year and I am grateful for their work and support.”
