Dental Assisting (Diploma) Steps to Admission

Are you new to SCC and/or do not have placement test scores or have not completed college level English or math courses?

Start with Health Sciences, the on ramp. You enroll, an advisor maps your path, and you complete the placement levels and prerequisite courses below. Then apply to Dental Assisting when you’re ready.

You will apply to the Dental Assisting program once you have have met the reading and math requirements.

Requirements

The Dental Assisting program requires the following reading and math levels:

Reading/Writing Math
Completion of Intermediate Reading/Writing (ENGL 0985) with a grade that will allow you to register for Composition I (ENGL 1010) or place into Composition I (ENGL 1010) Completion of Math Fundamentals (MATH 0900 or MATH 0903) with a grade that will allow you to register for Beginning Algebra (MATH 0950) or place into Beginning Algebra (MATH 0950)

If you meet the levels stated above, refer to the next page for the steps to apply directly to the Dental Assisting program.

If you do not meet the levels stated above, you will apply to the Health Sciences program to complete the required coursework. See the steps on the last page.

Submit placement test scores or an official transcript

You can submit placement test scores or an official transcript showing completion of college level English and math courses. SCC accepts the ACT, SAT, and Next-Generation ACCUPLACER®. Math scores are valid for three years and reading scores are valid for five years. Score reports can be submitted directly to admissions@southeast.edu. Score reports must contain your full name and date of test.

Complete appropriate levels of English and math courses

If you have completed English and/or math courses at SCC, the College will have your courses and grades on file; you will not need to submit documentation.

If you have completed English and/or math courses with a C or better at another college or university, submit an official transcript to the Registration & Records Office.

If you have not yet taken the ACT, SAT, or Next-Generation ACCUPLACER® or have not completed college-level English and math courses, contact the SCC Testing Center to schedule a time to take the Next-Generation ACCUPLACER®.

 

 

 
 

Steps to Admission

1. Apply

Apply to the Dental Assisting program within the time period noted for your intended start date.

2. Meet Requirements

Meeting Reading & Math Requirements as noted above. Requirements must be met in order for your application to be considered complete.

3. Complete Activity

After submitting your Application for Admission, you will submit the following documents. The documents must be received for your application to be considered complete.

Please note the following:

  • The program uses a selection process to determine admission.
  • Applications will be reviewed when all requirements are submitted.
  • The application will remain open for each program intake until all program seats are full.
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed if missing requirements or all required courses are not complete.
  • Applicants that are re-applying to the program must resubmit all documentation during each application period.

 

Final Requirements for Admitted Students

Students admitted to the Dental Assisting program will be required to submit the following within 15 days of admittance notification (Failure to do so will result in not being able to enroll in the program and the spot will be given to an alternate):

Students are encouraged to begin completing the health statement before acceptance, as several immunizations take more than 15 days to obtain.
