How Your College Advisor Helps You
Our College Advisors are here to help you with the following:
Study Skills: Are you tired of studying hard and still not doing your best? College Advisors will meet with you to explore study strategies designed for your learning style and will make referrals to campus resources as needed.
Goal Setting/Prioritizing: Not sure why you’re here or where you’re going once you’re done at SCC? College Advisors will help you look at your values, interests, talents, and responsibilities to set goals and create action plans to achieve those goals.
Academic Transfer Resources: If you are interested in transferring to a different program at SCC or a different college, you can use the information here to help you with the process
Our College Advisors will help you find scholarships to help you pay for college.
Time Management: Is your life pretty busy? College Advisors can teach you time management strategies and help you create patterns for success even in the busiest schedule.
Connection to Campus & Community Resources: College Advisors can help link you to other important resources like Counseling Assistance Program for Students (CAPS), Financial Aid, and the Tutoring and Learning Center just to name a few.
Academic Support: If things aren’t going well, DON’T GIVE UP! We are here to help you look at options, develop a plan, and get back on track. Some additional student resources include:
Types of Advisors
College Advisors are listed by campus along with their areas of expertise. Your best way to reach your College Advisor is via email. We have two types of advisors to help you meet your goals.
College Advisors
- Connect with you from the point of admission throughout your collegiate career at SCC
- Clarify and confirm your academic path and career choice
- Advise you at New Student Enrollment for your first semester and subsequent terms as needed
- Serve as your ongoing success coach
Program Advisors
- provide academic support beginning with your second term at SCC
- Serve as your content expert by providing detailed advising for your specific area of study
- Provide career mentoring as you explore career options
