Placement General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program WelcomeThe General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program is a two year automotive program designed to provide GM dealers with highly qualified and motivated entry level technicians. The curriculum is designed by General Motors and SCC and leads to an associate degree. The program involves attending classroom lecture and laboratory experiences on GM products at SCCs Milford Campus and a unique opportunity for students to work at a General Motors dealership. Since considerable time is spent at the dealership, the program requires the student to have a sponsoring General Motors dealer. The main responsibility of the dealership is to provide training related employment for the student during the work experience periods.You're a Good Fit for this program because . . . OverviewSCC’s General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program is a strategic alliance between the student, General Motors, General Motors dealers, and SCC. The ASEP program was created to develop much-needed qualified dealership technicians. This program incorporates the most advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading, electronics, analytical, and technical skills. The ASEP program teaches exclusively on General Motors products and current products, giving students a unique edge at the dealership. This program allows students to get on-the-job training at a sponsoring General Motors dealership. During odd-numbered quarters (1-3-5-7), students are in the classroom gaining knowledge and completing lab work. During even-numbered quarters (2-4-6), students are at the dealership gaining experience. This program is NATEF certified by Automotive Service Excellence, a nationally recognized organization that certifies technicians and automotive programs. MissionThe mission of the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program is to prepare individuals for employment as high-quality, entry-level technicians with General Motors dealers. Employment OutlookThe number of jobs for automotive service technicians and mechanics is projected to grow faster than average for all occupations over the next decade. Employment growth will create many new jobs, but total job openings will be significantly larger because many skilled technicians are expected to retire and will need to be replaced. Graduates report an average starting salary of $10.80 per hour, with a high salary of $18 per hour. If any dealers are interested in sponsoring you, please indicate so on your application. Complete and submit the Candidate Application and return it to SCC's Milford Campus. Students accepted for this class will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. All applicants are responsible for scheduling an appointment to take the COMPASS test. The pre-tests will be in the areas of writing, reading and math. ACT scores may be accepted. Please call the SCC Milford Campus Assessment Office, 402-761-8202 or 1-800-933-7223, Ext. 8202 for an appointment. Applicants with satisfactory test scores will be contacted to proceed with their interview with a General Motors Corp. dealership. Applicants who did not achieve satisfactory scores will be notified as soon as possible regarding their status and recommendations for correcting deficiencies. The student will be notified by mail if their application has been accepted or rejected for the General Motors ASEP program. Those selected also will receive additional information from SCC regarding registration and orientation. Obtain a General Motors dealer sponsor. Provide sponsoring employer (GM dealer) with responsible and productive employment. Participate in all learning activities at scheduled times. Attain a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in each prerequisite program course to continue. Maintain attendance standards. Be responsible for program costs: tuition, fees, books, tools, housing, etc. Wear work uniforms and safety glasses during campus and dealership training. Regular, punctual attendance is required in all classes. Each instructor will inform students by means of a written syllabus of attendance requirements at the first class meeting. Students enrolling in the Automotive Service Educational Program are required to provide hand tools for use in the lab while on coop and for use after graduation. While this can appear to be expensive, it also is an investment in your future since the tools will be used for many years. During the first week of the first quarter, students will be offered opportunities to purchase these tool sets from various manufacturers at considerable discount.
