Haden Selected to SCC Board of Governors

The Southeast Community College Board of Governors selected Matthew Haden of Lincoln to fill the District 4 vacancy left by the resignation of former board member Kristin Yates. Haden brings a unique combination of educational expertise and data-driven technology experience to the board. He will be sworn in at the Nov. 18 Board of Governors meeting on the Beatrice Campus.

Haden holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Concordia University with endorsements in Mathematics and Computer Science. He spent nine years as a classroom educator, teaching high school and middle school mathematics in both the North Kansas City School District and at Lincoln Lutheran. For the past eight years, he has served as IT Manager and Data Analyst at a Lincoln-area family practice clinic, overseeing technology operations and staff training, particularly in cybersecurity.

"I applied for the Board because I believe deeply in the value of accessible, high-quality education that prepares students for meaningful work," Haden said. "My career has spanned healthcare, information technology and education and I feel my skills, knowledge, and perspective would be beneficial to the constituents and the Board. "

Haden brings a pragmatic, data-informed perspective to the board, emphasizing SCC’s critical role in addressing workforce needs and combating Nebraska's brain drain. He highlighted the college's ability to rapidly adapt to industry demands, pointing to initiatives like the recently opened Welding Center as examples of SCC's responsiveness to regional workforce shortages.

"SCC helps bridge the gap for students and adults taking quality education courses or learning highly technical skills for practical workforce needs,” he said. “My goal is to listen carefully, understand diverse perspectives, and contribute thoughtfully to SCC’s continued success. I view this as an opportunity to give back to the community.”

The Board of Governors provides policy direction and oversight for SCC, which serves a 15-county area in southeastern Nebraska. There are five districts represented by 10 elected members as well as one at-large seat and a faculty representative. District 4 stretches across central Lincoln from the Lancaster County line in the west to east of 84th and O streets. Haden will serve through 2028, the remainder of the District 4 term.
