PROGRAM GOALS


Essential Healthcare Skills

You will develop fundamental healthcare skills needed for entry-level positions in various medical settings. These include proper patient interaction techniques, basic medical terminology, safety protocols and ethical practices that form the foundation of quality healthcare delivery across all specialties.


Specialized Technical Competency

You will learn specialized technical skills in your chosen healthcare path. These practical skills will be demonstrated through hands-on lab experiences.


Professional Workplace Readiness

You will demonstrate professional behaviors essential for healthcare environments, including effective communication with patients and healthcare team members, proper documentation practices, time management, and adherence to healthcare regulations and facility protocols.

How long does it take to complete the Healthcare Services program?


You will gain skills and knowledge enabling you to enter the healthcare workforce quickly. Full-time students can earn a certificate in just one semester, while part-time students can finish in one year, making this an efficient pathway to healthcare employment.

What kind of hands-on training does the Healthcare Services program offer?


Depending on the course, hands-on skills are taught in a lab setting with simulations and practice with classmates. This practical experience prepares you for real-world healthcare settings and builds your confidence before entering the field.

Are online learning options available for Healthcare Services?


Online and hybrid students complete the lecture portion online, with labs conducted at an SCC campus or Learning Center, The Career Academy, or as a dual credit high school student.

CAREER OUTCOMES

Nursing Assistant

Nursing assistants provide basic care for patients in hospitals, nursing homes and residential care facilities. They assist with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and eating, while also monitoring vital signs and reporting patient conditions to nursing staff.

Phlebotomist

Phlebotomists specialize in collecting blood samples from patients for laboratory testing, medical research or blood donations. They verify patient information, prepare equipment, perform venipuncture and properly label and transport specimens.

Medication Aide

Medication aides assist patients with medication administration under the supervision of licensed nurses or other healthcare providers. They maintain accurate medication records, monitor patients for adverse reactions and ensure proper storage and handling of medications.
