WHY SCC?
What skills will I learn in a biotechnology program?
Approximately half of your courses are lab-based, giving you significant hands-on training. You'll develop advanced laboratory techniques that students in four-year programs typically learn later in their education. Our students work on research projects and simulations, making you better prepared for the workforce.
How will I get real-world experience?
All A.S. and Diploma students complete an industry practicum where you'll apply your skills in workplace settings. This gives you industry experience and helps you build valuable connections. Our program maintains close relationships with industry partners, providing access to field trips, guest speakers and strong employment opportunities. We also have state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to the Biotechnology program with instruments and equipment similar to industry or academic labs.
Is the biotechnology program flexible for different schedules?
Our Biotechnology program offers classes in-person, online and hybrid formats to fit your schedule. General education courses that support the program are available on all SCC campuses, making it convenient no matter where you're located.
Can I transfer my biotechnology credits to a four-year college?
Our courses transfer to most four-year colleges and universities for degrees such as biology, biochemistry, microbiology, food science and other STEM-related fields, giving you a cost-effective start to your education.

Students who complete an Associate of Science degree in Biotechnology from SCC have the opportunity to transfer those hours to Nebraska Wesleyan University and pursue a bachelor’s degree. The agreement is an extension of the two schools’ existing partnership, SCC Pathways to NWU.The agreement creates a seamless transfer pathway for SCC Biotechnology students to NWU. It will provide a course sequence at SCC which will satisfy the requirements for an Associate of Science degree and will transfer and apply to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or a B.S. in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology at NWU.
