Learn to solve problems and communicate solutions through our flexible, online Geographic Information Systems Technician program. PROGRAM GOALS


Develop Advanced Technical Skills

Students gain knowledge in GIS applications and 21st century digital mapping techniques. You will learn to design and maintain geospatial servers, customize GIS software, and use programming concepts, database management, and website design skills.


Master Digital Data Management

Students learn to interpret, manipulate and manage digital data effectively. You will develop strong skills in organizing and working with geographic information that businesses and organizations rely on for decision-making.


Create Professional Maps and Visual Solutions

Students design clear, useful maps that show data in formats people can understand. You will build maps from simple to complex levels, combining different data layers to create meaningful results that solve real-world problems.

 

Geographic Information Systems Technician

The Geographic Information Systems Technician program trains students to collect, analyze and visualize geographic data using specialized mapping techniques. We will prepare you to model problems geographically and derive results by computer processing, analyzing and interpreting patterns in data using GIS hardware and software.

WHY SCC?

Can I take GIS classes online?


SCC's Geographic Information Systems Technician program is offered entirely online. The classes are asynchronous, which means you can complete coursework when it's convenient for you. This flexible format lets you fit school around your schedule.

CAREER OUTCOMES

GIS Technician/Analyst

Assist scientists and professionals in building, maintaining and modifying geographic information systems databases. Analyze geographic data, create maps and provide technical support for GIS applications used in decision-making processes.

Cartographer

Collect, analyze and interpret geographic information to create and update maps and related products. Use GIS technology, satellite images and survey data to develop static or interactive maps for print, digital, or graphic formats.

Surveying and Mapping Technician

Visit sites to take measurements of land and use GIS technology to assemble, integrate and display data about locations in digital formats. Maintain and update databases for GIS devices and assist with boundary location and mapping projects.
