Our Utility Lineworker program will prepare you to install, operate, maintain and repair electrical power distribution systems. This hands-on program provides comprehensive training in overhead and underground line construction, pole climbing and rigging techniques, electrical safety practices, transformer installation, troubleshooting electrical systems, and utility equipment operation. You gain the technical knowledge and field skills necessary to enter pre-apprenticeship or apprentice positions with electric utility companies, telecommunications providers and related industries. This program includes a cooperative experience component and professional truck driver training, ensuring graduates are workforce-ready for careers with utility companies throughout Nebraska and beyond.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES


Apply Electrical Theory

Learn basic electrical concepts including voltage, current, resistance and power, and apply these principles to utility line maintenance and repair.


System Maintenance

Install, maintain and repair overhead and underground utility lines following industry standards and regulations.


Ensure Safety

Identify and implement comprehensive safety procedures related to working with electricity, climbing poles and operating equipment for a safe work environment.

CAREER OUTCOMES

Apprentice Lineman

Apprentice linemen work under the guidance of experienced professionals, learning the trade through hands-on training and on-the-job experience. This entry-level position involves assisting experienced lineworkers with installing and repairing electrical power systems and utility poles while learning on the job.

Journeyman Lineman

Journeyman linemen possess the skills and expertise to work independently, performing tasks such as installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical systems. Journeyman linemen possess advanced climbing, rigging, and troubleshooting skills, making them essential members of electrical utility teams while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems.

Lineman Foreman

The role of lineman foreman offers an opportunity to take on greater responsibilities, overseeing line crews and managing complex electrical projects. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills along with a thorough understanding of electrical systems and safety practices, playing a crucial role in maintaining efficiency and productivity within electrical utility companies.
