  • Under age 21, six-point accumulation:
Drivers under the age of 21 who accumulate traffic violations totaling six-points are required to complete a certified four-hour driver improvement course or face suspension of the driving privilege.
  • Reinstatement of point revocation:
Any person who loses their license under the Nebraska point system is required to complete a certified four-hour improvement course prior to reinstating the driver's license.
  • Two-point credit to your driving record:
Completion of a certified four-hour driver improvement course will credit two points toward traffic violations assessed against your driving record. Credit does not apply toward traffic violations (points) that are assessed after the date you complete the course, violations (points) will be assessed by date of the occurrence, NOT the court conviction date. You must have fewer than 12 points assessed against your driving record. A two-point credit is allowed only once within a five-year period.

What is the Smart Drivers class?
This class is the four-hour Department of Motor Vehicle-approved course for:

  • Under 21 six point accumulation
  • Reinstatement of point revocation
  • Two-point credit to driving record

Can I just show up to class?
No. You must pre-register and pay by 5 p.m. on the Friday before your desired class.

Will I get papers at class that show I attended?
No. We will send the required paperwork to the DMV on the first business day after class. This is usually on Monday.

What if I'm late to class?
You need to be on time! The full four hours is required by state. Doors will be closed a few minutes after 8 a.m. and if you are late, you will not be allowed to attend class and will be required to re-register and re-pay for class. If you need to drop the class, you must call (402-437-2700) to notify us of that drop at least the day before in order to receive a full refund.
