How do I get registered?
You can register online, by phone, by fax or in person. Do I have to buy the textbook?
Do I have to attend orientation?
Yes, or a representative may attend in your place. Does a parent have to attend the orientation?
Yes, if at all possible. If a parent or guardian isn’t available, another adult or older sibling may attend with the new driver.
Do I have to attend all lectures and drives?
Yes. This is a requirement by statute. How will this class help me?
You will receive a Department of Motor Vehicles waiver and are not required to take any further tests for your license. Many insurance providers offer a discount to those who successfully complete a Driver's Education course. Is the testing part of the class?
Testing is a part of driver education and is done for both written and skills assessment. What happens if I fail either part?
You get two chances to pass the driving part of the class. Subsequent drive re-tests cost $40 (effective Jan. 1, 2021) each attempt. Should you fail the written test, you can study and retake it at the Jack J. Huck Continuing Education Center (301 S. 68th St. Place, Lincoln) until you are able to pass the test. Is tuition assistance available?
How do I sign up for my drive time?
During orientation, students are divided into groups based at physical locations. Students choose a drive time in chronological order based on the date you registered for class. When is the driving finished?
During the school year, the 2 hour drive lab will meet once per week for six consecutive weeks. During the summer, the two-hour lab will meet every day for one week only Monday through Saturday. The driving and lecture are always taught concurrently. How old do I have to be?
Old enough to have a learner permit. Can I drive without a learner permit?
