    Program Description

    If you like working with people in a leadership position, the Long Term Care Administration program is the perfect fit for you. We developed our online only program with the help of long term care administrators in order to meet the education requirements for licensure as a nursing home administrator. In addition, our program exceeds the education requirements for approval as an assisted living administrator in Nebraska.

    As an administrator, you are the chief executive responsible for planning, organizing, leading and supervising the operations of a home for the aged licensed by Health and Human Services. You will need to complete an administrator-in-training program according to your states’ requirements in addition to your degree and is not a part of our curriculum. Upon completion, you will take the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards for licensure requirements and your state may require a state exam.

    Our Long Term Care program prepares you to meet the educational requirements needed to be an administrator in a long term care facility. You will be a successful administrator if you:

    • are detail oriented and able to work on a team
    • lead your team with integrity
    • can communicate effectively (both oral and written)
    • work toward being a proactive manager
    • are receptive to others and their ideas
    • empower your employees by trusting their skills and abilities
    • have a realistic management approach in order to make the tough decisions
    • are passionate about serving others

    You can start the Long Term Care Administration program in the Fall or Spring terms. Follow these steps to finish your application:

    1. Complete an application for admission.
    2. Submit official high school transcripts, GED® scores, and/or other college transcripts.
    3. Check with an advisor to determine if you need to take the COMPASS assessment test. This requirement may be waived if you have a sufficiently high and recent ACT scores or have successfully completed necessary college-level prerequisite courses.
    4. You must complete the regular SCC admission requirements and prerequisite courses with a “C” or higher to continue in the Long Term Care Administration program.

    An administrator is the chief executive responsible for planning, organizing, leading and supervising the operations of a home for the aged licensed by Health and Human Services. Some of your specific duties include budget administration, personnel activities, supervision, public relations, leading regulatory changes, and facility management. Career options in Long Term Care Administration include:
