Learning Center at Nebraska City

We are excited to bring educational opportunities to Nebraska City and surrounding communities. Beyond credit and leisure learning courses, we also offer GED®/English Language Learner classes, Nursing Assistant courses and continuing education hours for Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). The Learning Center has a large construction, electrical and woodworking lab space that allows SCC to offer dual credit construction pathway classes for high school students.

Our Learning Center offers students online learning options to our campuses, dual credit classes, student support with registration, advising, testing and much more.

We rent our classroom space to individuals or businesses needing a meeting area. If your business or organization is in need of training, ask us how we can help you customize training opportunities.

The six Learning Centers are geographically distributed across the service area to maximize the number of individuals living within a 35-mile radius from each of the centers. Each Learning Center offers credit and non-credit courses, as well as business and industry training.

Basic Skills Improvement/GED® Preparation Classes

ABE/GED® classes run continuously in locations throughout southeast Nebraska. Adult Basic Education classes help students improve their basic skills for work, school, employment, GED® testing, or self-satisfaction. Students are assessed during orientation to determine their specific needs, and instruction is based accordingly. Teachers and tutors provide confidential instruction to all participants.

Volunteer Tutors Needed

Volunteer tutors are an important part of our ABE/GED® program. Volunteer tutors assist students with GED® preparation, English as a Second Language or basic skills in the areas of reading, math and language. Requirements for becoming a volunteer tutor are simple: a high school diploma or GED® and a willingness to help students learn! For more information on becoming a volunteer, please contact Elizabeth Williams at 402-437-2666 or email ewilliams@southeast.com.

English as a Second Language

Classes are offered throughout southeast Nebraska for individuals who want to improve their English listening and speaking skills. As part of a Career Pathways program, all students will have the opportunity to improve employability skills and prepare for college or a career. Citizenship information also is available.

No registration fee, all classes are free.

For more information on Basic Skills, GED® Preparation, English as a Second Language, please contact the Adult Education office at 402-437-2719; or email janderson1@southeast.edu.
