Supporting our rural communities with emergency medical services education and training.

Emergency Medical Service courses will teach you how to render care for people experiencing medical emergencies, as well as how to give care to people who have been injured. Levels of training include Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic.

All EMS courses offered by SCC meet the National EMS Education Standards, National Standards Curriculum and will prepare the student to test for the National Registry of EMT certification.

Students will participate in a hands-on scenario-based learning by performing assessments and treating simulated trauma patients, followed by a brief debriefing on the pathophysiology of the patient’s condition.

Trains licensed out-of-hospital emergency care providers to become licensed Emergency Medical Services Instructors.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to develop a topic for presentation using proven educational methods and tools.

Required book is available at the SCC Campus Store, 8800 O St. or purchase online at Campus Store.

All applicants for an initial emergency medical services instructor must hold a current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification at or above the level being instructed. An applicant that is currently licensed as a registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, physician assistant, doctor of medicine, or doctor of osteopathy is deemed to have met this requirement and must submit a copy of their current and unrestricted license are exempt from having National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification.

This course will equip EMTs to perform a thorough patient assessment, recognize a need for IV fluids and develop a treatment plan to successfully implement and administer appropriate IV therapies.

CPR Basic Life Support (for Health Care Professionals)

Sign up for this CPR BLS training, and learn all that you need to know in performing CPR and using an AED and responding to foreign-body airway obstruction.

CPR - HeartCode® Basic Life Support Online + Skills Session (for Health Care Professionals)

Need your professional certification in AHA CPR Basic Life Support and want a convenient way of getting it? This online class is for you! You will only need to meet in person once for the Skills Session after you complete the online portion of the class. You will receive the online AHA access key and email approximately one week prior to your Skills Session class.

  • When registering, include your email address.
  • Once you’ve completed the online portion, you will print your AHA Online Course Completion Certificate. For admission into the Skills Session, you must have this certificate with you.

EMTs are the foundation of pre-hospital emergency medical care. For medical emergencies, they provide rapid response, initial evaluation and care, and transport to an appropriate medical facility. They also provide transport between facilities for people who are bedridden and/or require continuous monitoring and care.

EMT courses are held each quarter on the SCC Lincoln campus located at 8800 O St. Courses also may be held at our many SCC Learning Centers and other locations, based upon the needs of the community. These courses are all offered in daytime, evening and online formats.

  • Non-visualized advanced airway management
  • Impedance threshold device
  • Intravenous fluid monitoring only
  • Peripheral intravenous access and monitoring intravenous fluids
  • Medication administration of albuterol by nebulizer and epinephrine by auto injector
