Learning Center at Hebron

  • We are excited to bring educational opportunities to Hebron and the surrounding communities. Located downtown in a former elementary building, we are easy to find right off Lincoln Avenue. Beyond credit and leisure learning courses, we also house the GED/Adult Education programs, Nursing Assistant courses, and Continuing Education hours for RNs and LPNs. We also rent our classroom space to individuals or businesses needing a private meeting area. Ask us how we can help you customize a training! Please check back periodically to see how we are progressing. Feel free to contact Crystal if you have any questions.

    Basic Skills Improvement/GED® Preparation Classes

AE/GED® classes run continuously in locations throughout southeast Nebraska. Adult Basic Education classes help students improve their basic skills for work, school, employment, GED® testing, or self-satisfaction. Students are assessed during orientation to determine their specific needs, and instruction is based accordingly. Teachers and tutors provide confidential instruction to all participants.

    Volunteer Tutors Needed

Volunteer tutors are an important part of our AE/GED® program. Volunteer tutors assist students with GED® preparation, English as a Second Language or basic skills in the areas of reading, math and language. Requirements for becoming a volunteer tutor are simple: a high school diploma or GED® and a willingness to help students learn!

    Citizenship

SCC offers information on the steps in the Naturalization process and instruction in the key component of U.S. history and government that applicants must know for the USCIS interview. Candidates for U.S. citizenship must learn what it really means to participate in a democracy and the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens.

    English as a Second Language

Classes are offered throughout southeast Nebraska for individuals who want to improve their English listening and speaking skills. As part of a Career Pathways program, all students will have the opportunity to improve employability skills and prepare for college or a career. Citizenship information also is available.

No registration fee, all classes are free.

For more information on Basic Skills, GED® Preparation, Citizenship, English as a Second Language, or being a volunteer, please contact the Adult Education office at 402-437-2719; 800-828-0072, ext. 2719; or email lsaffer@southeast.edu.

    Scholarship and Financial Assistance Opportunities:

Placement Testing – Next Generation ACCUPLACER®: This is one of the course placement tests utilized by SCC and other Nebraska community colleges. The Center provides the Next Generation ACCUPLACER® test free to high school students ages 16 and older. High school graduates receive one free test. Additional tests cost $15 each.

Proctor Tests: Center staff proctor tests set up by SCC faculty for students in their class for free. Proctoring tests for other colleges is $25 per test.

Connection to SCC Services: The Learning Center staff is available to assist in making connections via phone or video with SCC services. In-person meetings at the LC may also be arranged.
